"Painting as a process of internalization (Comprehension). Creating a connection between a place and myself. Perceiving is exciting - a commitment to the environment, a state between the conscious and subconscious,“ is Heide Thurner’s answer when asked why she paints.
This artist does have an eye for situations. Whether it is a barge on the Danube, a round tower somewhere, a garden of apricot trees - when looking at her paintings, one feels transferred to a certain situation, which has been chosen as the subject of the painting. On the river, in a small town, between houses, in front of an archway.
Heide Thurner paints what she sees. She simplifies it, emphasizes certain details, leaves others in the vague. With a tender look she captures a piece of the world around her. Something floating, delicate, light emanates from her paintings. As if she felt she did not belong to any style, certainly not to any formal method. She leaves open, leaves aside what one is used to admire as a school of painting or as a distinctive personality. As if this were not important to her, rather suspicious.
Impressive, cubic, expressive - all this can be found in her paintings - as if casually applied. No insistence on a certain way of looking, no wanting to assert oneself, no demonstration: "Look, that's how I paint! At first one is puzzled and thinks: What is this? What does she actually want? Then I hesitate again and realize that there is a magic in the pictures, that they are not meant to be like this or like that. Since they are open, free, loose and immediate. They have a soothing effect on my eyes, which are tired of too much 'art'.

Diese Künstlerin hat Augen. Ob eine Zille auf der Donau, ein runder Turm irgendwo, ein Marillengarten – man fühlt sich bei Betrachtung ihrer Bilder in eine bestimmte Situation versetzt, die zum Thema des Bildes gewählt wurde. Am Fluss, in einem Städtchen, zwischen Häusern, vor einem Torbogen.
Heide Thurner malt, was sie sieht. Sie vereinfacht es, hebt gewisse Einzelheiten hervor, lässt andere im Ungefähren. Mit zärtlichem Blick erfasst sie ein Stück der sie umgebenden Welt. Etwas Schwebendes, Zartes, Leichtes geht von ihren Bildern aus. Als ob sie sich keinem Stil zugehörig fühlte, schon gar nicht einer formalen Methode. Sie lässt offen, lässt es beiseite, was man als Malschule oder als unverwechselbare Persönlichkeit zu bewundern gewohnt ist. Als ob ihr das nicht wichtig, eher verdächtig wäre.
Impressives, Kubisches, Expressives – das alles lässt sich in ihren Bildern finden – wie beiläufig angewandt. Kein Beharren auf einer Sehweise, kein Sich- Behaupten-Wollen, keine Demonstration: Schaut her, so male ich! Zuerst stutzt man und denkt: Was soll das? Was will sie eigentlich? Dann stutze ich wieder und merke, dass den Bildern ein Zauber innewohnt, sie nicht so oder so sein sollen. Weil sie offen, frei, locker und unmittelbar sind. Sie wirken wohltuend auf meine von zu viel ‚Kunst‘ ermüdbaren Augen.”
